Cambodian Investor Seeks Justice in YY Capital Dispute
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally requested intervention from Cambodian authorities, accusing the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, of financial misconduct and breaches of trust.
In letters submitted to the government, including one addressed to the Ministry of Justice, the investor alleges he was defrauded and financially harmed by Yamada, a Japanese national. The investor claims that several real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated through inflated purchase prices, with preliminary estimates suggesting that approximately $4 million was misappropriated for personal gain.
The investor further alleges that Yamada and his associates created fictitious transactions, including loans totaling over $7 million, forged documents, and large-scale cash diversions via shell companies. Some of the funds are reported to have been transferred to an overseas bank account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
According to the letters, Yamada is said to have established shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, controlling the related bank accounts and financial transactions directly.
The letters also note that Cambodian prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases against Yamada and others, with court orders freezing certain assets and accounts. Meanwhile, authorities in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are reportedly reviewing related allegations, including embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and potential money laundering.
The investor called on Cambodian authorities to conduct a full and transparent investigation and expressed concern that any interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
As investigations continue, the allegations remain claims from the investor, with authorities in multiple jurisdictions involved in reviewing the matter.
